The NSF AGEP Program goal is to enhance the nation's faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing support and professional development opportunities to domestic PhD students from groups underrepresented in these fields. To support this goal, SEAGEP will work with faculty to provide partial support for top quality students by offering a small number of fellowships for individuals with interest in faculty careers who are pursuing a PhD in a STEM field. Fellowships up to a maximum of $10,000 for year 1 and up to an additional $10,000 to be distributed as desired in years 2-4 is available. Tuition wavers for one year are also available.

To receive SEAGEP financial support, STEM faculty must apply to SEAGEP on behalf of a student. The application must include a 4-year funding plan that shows how the SEAGEP money will be leveraged to provide funding for the student over a 4 year period.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrollment in a UF PhD STEM program
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Commitment to a career in academia in a STEM field

To Apply: All items below must be submitted to be considered for an award

  • Complete the online application
  • Copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts
  • A four-year funding plan signed by the Department Chair, that includes a maximum of $10,000 in year 1 and a max of $10,000 over years 2-4.
  • A personal statement written by the student discussing their research experience and commitment to an academic career.
  • A letter of recommendation from the student's major advisor or the Department's graduate director.
